Wage & Hour Certificate of Completion: PAGA Reform
Enacted in 2004, the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) provided individuals with the opportunity to file lawsuits in courts seeking penalties for Labor Code violation for themselves and all other aggrieved employees opening the door for a substantial increase in litigation.
This new wave of litigation has cost businesses of all sizes billions of dollars without bringing much benefit to workers. As a result, on July 1, 2024, Governor Newsom signed a pair of bills that will bring a much-needed PAGA reform. This reform aims to provide businesses the tools needed to reduce exposure, risk and damages related to wage and hour violations.
In this webinar, CalChamber's employment law experts explained what this major new reform entails and how businesses can take proactive steps to limit future liability. Covered topics included:
- How PAGA works.
- New steps that allow employers to cure violations without litigation.
- New proactive and reactive rules to allow employers to minimize penalties.
- New litigation rules that benefit both small and large businesses.
- Key takeaways to immediately work towards compliance.
