Overview

RSS Feeds

A news feed is a listing of a Web site's content in a simplified (RSS) format. It is updated whenever new content is published to the site. You can get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as it is published, without having to visit the Web sites from which you have taken the feed. The title will link directly to the article, alert, or publication.

RSS Instructions

Follow the directions below to get started with RSS feeds and get updates as they are posted.

Internet Explorer®:

  1. Open an Internet Explorer window. (Note: RSS is NOT supported on IE6 or earlier.)
  2. Click on a RSS button above.
  3. In the upper left below 'File' you will see a button with a star and next to it a button with a plus sign and a star. Click the button with the plus sign and the star and select 'Add to favorites...'
  4. Click on the button with the star on it. The feed should now appear in this favorites list.
  5. To view the feed in this format click on the star button and click on the desired feed. If you hover over the desired feed two green arrows will appear on the right. If you click on these arrows, the feed will refresh if it has not refreshed automatically already.

Microsoft Outlook® 2007:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook (Note: RSS is NOT supported on Outlook 2003.)
  2. In the left toolbar where your folders are located (including Inbox, Sent, etc.) there is a folder called RSS. Right click on the folder and select "Add a New RSS Feed."
  3. Copy the desired RSS link from the blue box above.
  4. Paste the link into the box and click 'add.'

My Yahoo!®:

  1. Login to your MyYahoo! account.
  2. Click the green button near the top that says '+add content.'
  3. To the right of the 'I'm Done' button click on the link that says ‘Add RSS feed.’
  4. Copy the desired RSS link from the blue box above.
  5. Paste the link into the box and click 'add.'

Gmail™ or iGoogle™:

  1. Login to your Gmail account or open your iGoogle.
  2. Look for the link that says 'Reader' at the top of the page (You may have to click 'More' at the end of the list to find it.
  3. Once on the Reader page, in the left toolbar, click on 'add subscription.'
  4. Copy the desired RSS link from the blue box above.
  5. Paste the link into the box and click 'add.'

To view one of the feeds in the news reader of your choice:

  1. Copy the desired RSS link from the blue box above.
  2. Paste the link into the box and click 'add.'

Add a feed to your website, intranet, or blog:

Many site editing or admin sections allow an easy way to add RSS feeds to a page on your website.  Some examples include SharePoint, Wordpress, and WebLink. Please refer to your system's user guide or contact your website administrator.

This is a great way to include automatically updated content on your homepage.
