Beginning October 1, 2017, the City of Berkeley (the City or Berkeley) has a Paid Sick Leave Ordinance (the PSLO) that requires you to provide a minimum amount of paid sick leave (the Berkeley Sick Leave or BSL) to employees working in Berkeley.
As of July 1, 2015, California law provides mandatory paid sick leave under the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act (the State Law). You are required to comply with both the PSLO and the State Law.
When the two laws differ, you must follow whichever is more generous to employees.
