Essential Job Functions

When considering candidates for job openings and promotions, you may find qualified applicants who have a disability. You must determine if the person with a disability can perform the essential functions of the job. For more information, see "Qualified Individual With a Disability" Defined and "Essential Job Functions" Defined. A job function is considered essential if it constitutes the job’s fundamental duties or if the job exists to perform that function.1
