Training New Hires

The introductory period for any new employee is often challenging for both employee and supervisor. Often the attention given to the task of training at this time will set the employee on the road to success or allow the supervisor to identify and deal with bad hiring decisions. Do not refer to the introductory period of employment as a “probationary period,” because the completion of a probationary period implies a commitment to employ the person as a permanent employee, which overrides the at-will nature of employment.
