Duration and Timing of Family and Medical Leave

An employee can take up to 12 workweeks of family and medical leave in a 12-month period. He/she can take all 12 weeks at once, or take leave in shorter increments of hours, days or weeks (see Intermittent Medical Leave below). An employee can also use leave to create a reduced work schedule, where he/she works fewer hours per day and counts those hours toward the 12-week entitlement. See Calculating Weeks for Leave for more information.
