Definitions of Terms Used in Family and Medical Leave

An employee can take medical leave for his/her own “serious health condition.” An employee who is the spouse, son, daughter, parent, or next of kin of a covered servicemember can also take military caregiver leave for the “serious injury or illness” of the covered servicemember.​​
