Job-Relatedness as a Discrimination Defense

Any selection criterion or qualification must be a valid predictor of the applicant’s success at performing the job in question.1 For example, typing and spelling tests are related to a secretary’s job. However, requiring a driver’s license or high school diploma for a labor job would be difficult to justify.
