SUBJECT: REVISIONS TO TITLE 8, CALIFORNIA CODE OF REGULATIONS,
SECTION 5110: ERGONOMICS - OPPOSE.
Dear Chairman Rank and Members of the Standards Board:
The [Insert Company Name] OPPOSES any revision to TITLE 8, CALIFORNIA CODE OF REGULATIONS, REGULATION 5110: ERGONOMICS. California’s current ergonomics standard is more than adequate, and takes into consideration all the uncertainties with regulating ergonomics.
Our company strongly opposes revisions to current Regulation 5110. Today, California has a standard that provides reasonable protection for workers and needed flexibility to employers in complying, given the highly subjective nature of RMIs. California should not embark on a course to change the current standard with all the attendant costs, controversy and litigation that is almost certain to ensue without very good reasons for doing so.
Moreover, amending Regulation 5110 to be more prescriptive and punitive runs counter to the need to focus on job creation, reducing the regulatory burden on business and improving California’s economy.
For these reasons, the [Insert Company Name] strongly OPPOSES any revisions to TITLE 8, CALIFORNIA CODE OF REGULATIONS, REGULATION 5110: ERGONOMICS.
Sincerely,
cc: Julianne Broyles
