During his presentation, Luntz revealed that Americans feel they are less free now than in the past and don’t feel the American dream is alive. Moreover, about half of Americans say the best times are behind them. Although most Americans feel they are better off than their parents were, most feel that their children will be worse off than they currently are.
At the moment, Americans are shouting for stability and opportunity, Luntz said. And public confidence in government and corporations is vanishing. To work against this distrust, Luntz stressed the importance of effective communication.

Governor Jerry Brown addressed the annual gathering of more than 1,200 business and civic leaders at the 86th Sacramento Host Breakfast.
During Governor Brown’s remarks he candidly talked about the difficulties California must confront, particularly related to the business climate. He discussed the challenges we face with competitiveness, job creation, education, water system, energy and infrastructure.
Governor Brown stressed that “when there are great challenges, we always come together.” He said that in this difficult time, “this is a unique moment” to come together to fix our problems.
CalChamber Board Chair Comments on California Strengths
CalChamber Board Chair S. Shariq Yosufzai’s remarks focused on California strengths and the need to return California to greatness by reigniting our business climate and restoring our competitive advantages.
“Creating certainty for business will remove one of the biggest obstacles to economic growth,” said Yosufzai. Throughout his remarks, he discussed the fact that business community is at the table working to resolve the challenges faced by our state.
