CalChamber Reveals Remodeled International Trade Website

(August 25, 2009) In an ongoing effort to promote international trade for California — one of the 10 largest economies in the world with a gross state product of over $1.8 trillion — the California Chamber of Commerce recently expanded its international trade website.

This new website has a more user-friendly interface with more opportunities for the business community to learn about exporting and becoming engaged in federal trade policy.

For businesses interested in going global, the CalChamber has a wealth of global resources and international contacts to help get businesses started. The webpage offers users a variety of information from trade issues to federal legislation, and everything about the import/export business.

International-related commerce accounts for approximately one-quarter of the state’s economy. The website offers trade statistics for various countries and additional information about the impact of foreign direct investment in the U.S. economy. A number of California’s top trading partners also have their own Trading Partner Portal.

Dozens of international articles, videos and reports are generated by CalChamber annually. These messages and events are featured on the CalChamber website, publications, and email newsletters. CalChamber publishes a weekly Trade Update email which provides the latest international headlines, trade policy updates and calendar of international events.
More than 50 frequently asked questions and answers are included in the Trade FAQs.

Although trade is a nationally determined policy issue, its impact on California is immense. In 2008, California exported to 226 foreign markets. Trade offers the opportunity to expand the role of California’s exports. In its broadest terms, trade can literally feed the world and raise the living standards of those around us.

In addition to being a legislative advocacy organization, the CalChamber offers a variety of services to help businesses comply with complex laws and regulations, as well as compete in the international marketplace.

The CalChamber supports expansion of international trade and investment, fair and equitable market access for California products abroad, and elimination of disincentives that impede the international competitiveness of California business.

Consular Corps Information PacketOver the past several years, the CalChamber International Affairs Department has answered many questions, particularly for Consular Corp members newly posted in the state, about how the U.S. and California governments work, and what the CalChamber has to offer our international guests.

As a direct result of these inquiries, CalChamber has compiled this information into one handy information packet which is also available on the newly expanded website. The packet includes detailed information regarding the California Chamber of Commerce, our international activities, specific operations within the California government directed at international guests, and a guide to understanding the U.S. Government.
