(June 2, 2011) Earlier this morning, Governor Jerry Brown addressed the annual gathering of more than 1,200 business and civic leaders at the 86th Sacramento Host Breakfast.
Governor Brown’s remarks followed those of CalChamber Board Chair S. Shariq Yosufzai of Chevron Corporation, business owner Dale R. Carlsen, founder of The Sleep Train Mattress Center, and Dan Cole, the Sacramento Host Committee chairman.
During Governor Brown’s remarks he candidly talked about the difficulties California must confront, particularly related to the business climate. He discussed the challenges we face with competitiveness, job creation, education, water system, energy and infrastructure.
Governor Brown stressed that “when there are great challenges, we always come together.” He said that in this difficult time, “this is a unique moment” to come together to fix our problems.
The Governor acknowledged in his remarks that business must create the wealth we need to recover economically. In discussing solving our state’s challenges, he assured business leaders that “we’re going to get there.”
CalChamber Board Chair S. Shariq Yosufzai’s remarks focused on California strengths and the need to return California to greatness by reigniting our business climate and restoring our competitive advantages.
“Creating certainty for business will remove one of the biggest obstacles to economic growth,” said Yosufzai. Throughout his remarks, he discussed the fact that business community is at the table working to resolve the challenges faced by our state.
The Sacramento Host Breakfast offers decision-making leaders in California finance, government, education, agriculture and industry the opportunity to exchange views, establish and renew friendships, and create statewide atmospheres of good will and understanding at a common table.
