U.S. Department of Labor Seeks Comments on Improving Regulatory Processes

(March 29, 2011) The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is seeking comments by March 31 at its new website designed to collect public feedback on ways to improve regulations and the DOL's regulatory review process.

The online tool is part of the DOL's attempt to comply with President Barack Obama’s January 18 executive order, which calls for federal agencies to detail how they will review existing significant regulations to identify whether regulations may be made more effective or less burdensome.

The DOL website allows the public to provide comments or suggestions to improve DOL regulations by modifying, streamlining, expanding or repealing them.

The DOL asks that submitters explain, in as much detail as possible, why a regulation or reporting requirement should be modified, streamlined, expanded or repealed. In addition, the DOL seeks specific suggestions of ways it can better achieve its regulatory objectives. The DOL has asked that empirical evidence and supporting data be included whenever possible.
