(March 29, 2004) The California Chamber of Commerce will only be accepting submissions for its “Simply Essential Success Stories” contest through Wednesday the 31st. The first ever “Simply Essential Success Stories” contest was launched by the Chamber earlier this month along with its 2004 California Human Resource Essentials compliance kit to help small businesses keep up-to-date and in compliance with California’s ever-changing employment laws.
The Chamber has received over 200 submissions to date and is anticipating a large amount of entries in these last three days of the contest.

“This contest is a way for us to share past experiences, reward success and identify ways to make California’s future even brighter,” said Chamber President Allan Zaremberg. “One way the California Chamber already does that is by helping California businesses manage their employment law responsibilities.”
The “Simply Essential Success Stories” contest is open to any small business in California with 100 or fewer employees. Businesses can enter online by filling out a short questionnaire and submitting their success stories.
A panel of small business leaders will review responses and award regional prizes in each of the following six regions: San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Central Valley, Bay Area and Northern California.
A grand prize winner will be chosen from among the regional winners and will receive $5,000 plus a regional prize package and recognition from Chamber President Zaremberg on May 4, 2004 at the California Chamber of Commerce Business Legislative Summit.
When reviewing submissions, the Simply Essential Success Stories judges will pay special attention to creative tactics businesses used to increase revenue, cut costs or overcome financial or human resource adversity. They want to know what methods were used to motivate employees or increase employee retention.
Five additional winners will be awarded a range of prizes that include coffee from Starbucks Coffee Company, a handheld PDA, a preferred membership to the California Chamber of Commerce and a 2004 California Human Resource Essentials Kit. The Kit is a quick reference to help small businesses keep up-to-date and in compliance with California’s ever-changing employment laws by providing all the required state employment law information and forms in one easy-to-use package.
The California Chamber of Commerce’s broad inventory of products and services are available online through the California Chamber of Commerce human resources portal at www.hrcalifornia.com. The launch of the Simply Essential Success Stories contest coincides with the release of the 2004 version of California Chamber’s HR Essentials product, designed to help businesses maneuver the often-complicated terrain of employment law. HR Essentials is a quick reference guide with all the required California employment law information and forms in one small and easy-to-use kit. HR Essentials is available for just $99 from the California Chamber website.
“Changing employment laws can be especially confusing for small business owners,” continued Zaremberg. “For that very reason, the California Chamber of Commerce sells a full suite of HR tools and resources to help small businesses answer difficult questions and navigate California’s complex employment laws and regulations.”
