Are You in Compliance?

California's hourly minimum wage is $8.00 per hour beginning January 1, 2008. This change requires you to increase exempt employees' minimum salary and modify compensation and benefits budgets.

To comply in 2008, when the minimum wage increases to $8.00 per hour, you need to consider many factors, including wage compression:

TIP: Did you realize that January 1, 2008 may be the middle of your pay period, resulting in two pay rates for employees affected by the new minimum wage?

The law only requires you to pay the increase for time worked beginning on January 1, 2008. Any time worked before that can be at the 2007 rate.
