Australia-New Zealand-ASEAN Regional FTA
Economic ministers from Australia, New Zealand and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached an agreement on September 5, 2004, to begin Free Trade Agreement negotiations.
Negotiations continued throughout 2005 and 2006. In August 2007, the economic ministers agreed to aim for completion of the FTA in 2008.
Originally constituted in 1967 to include Burma, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia, ASEAN would like to expand its membership to include Japan, China, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand.
